SCCY pistol FAQ: the models
SCCY makes a small family of compact carry pistols. They share the same basic frame and size, so the differences come down to caliber, trigger type and whether there is a manual safety.
- CPX-1: 9mm, double-action-only, with a manual thumb safety.
- CPX-2: 9mm, double-action-only, no manual safety.
- CPX-3: .380 ACP, double-action-only, no manual safety.
- CPX-4: .380 ACP, double-action-only, with a manual thumb safety.
- DVG-1: 9mm, striker-fired, with a lighter trigger of about 5.5 lb.
What is the difference between the CPX-1, CPX-2, CPX-3 and CPX-4?
CPX-1 and CPX-2 are 9mm. CPX-3 and CPX-4 are .380 ACP. The CPX-1 and CPX-4 have a manual thumb safety, and the CPX-2 and CPX-3 do not. Size, capacity and trigger feel are very close across all four.
What is the SCCY DVG-1?
It is the striker-fired SCCY. Instead of the long double-action pull on the CPX guns, it has a shorter, lighter trigger of about 5.5 pounds. It still holds 10+1 rounds of 9mm.
What does RD mean on a SCCY?
RD models come from the factory with a Crimson Trace CTS-1500 red dot already mounted on the slide. You do not need to buy an optic or pay for milling.
How many rounds does a SCCY pistol hold?
The CPX and DVG-1 pistols we sell hold 10 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber, so 11 total.
Are SCCY pistols reliable?
For a budget carry gun they have a solid track record, and the newer Gen 3 models are the ones we recommend. Like any small pistol, put a couple hundred rounds through yours before you carry it.
Do SCCY pistols have a warranty?
Yes. SCCY backs its pistols with a manufacturer warranty. Check the current terms on the SCCY website.
SCCY pistol FAQ: buying online
Buying a handgun online is legal and simple, but it works a little differently than other online shopping. These are the questions we get most about the ordering side.
Can you ship a gun to my house?
No. Every firearm ships to a licensed FFL dealer near you. You pick the dealer at checkout and pick the gun up there after a background check.
How old do I have to be to buy a handgun?
You must be 21 or older to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer.
Do magazines ship to my house?
In most states, yes. Some states and cities limit magazine capacity, so check your local laws first.
How fast do you ship?
Most orders ship within a few business days once we have your dealer’s license on file.
What does an FFL transfer cost?
That is set by your local dealer. Most charge somewhere between $20 and $50. Call them before you order.
Which states can you not ship to?
Some states restrict certain models. Check the current list on our FFL transfer page before you order.
